Fusion Works Invitational Rocket Race
The rules were simple. Find or make your own vehicle, and then attach a rocket or rockets to said vehicle. Having no restrictions made it fun for all ages. Some of the materials used in the construction of these vehicles included cardboard, wood, steel, aluminum, titanium, cheese, and hair to name a few. You were judged not only on how far the car would ultimately go, but on how entertaining the run was. Since there were no safety wires involved, to hold the vehicles to the ground, and they were not being inspected and signed off by an engineer, danger was also something that could score you some solid points. Sometimes the car would go several meters forward, spin around and come back on the crowd of onlookers. Sometimes it would get airborne and once in the air, anything could happen. No one was ever injured during any event, as for the most part, these were short duration rockets, and pointed towards an empty field.
Check out the slideshow to see some of the rocket cars that ran at these events, as well as other 'one off' rocket events.
