This cabinet is built entirely of stainless steel, brass, tempered, and leaded glass. Stainless steel is an alloy made up of carbon steel, nickel and chromium. The nickel content gives the steel a bright silvery lustre and the chromium content gives it resistance to corrosion.
It is important that the cabinet remain bright throughout the years. The finish on both the stainless steel and the brass is a four step process ending in a hand finish with a fine abrasive pad. This removes the linear factory finish of the tubes and gives the cabinet a softer satin surface that reflects colours beautifully.
Three halogen fixtures reside between three beams that form the top structure of the cabinet. This provides lighting for the contents of the cabinet and back light for the motif which depicts Quetzalcoatl
Two pieces of bevelled glass rest above the halogen fixtures and cast arcs of light across the wall and the ceiling above the cabinet. The lighting is adjusted by a dimmer in a discreet location. A brass dome depicting the sun swings to either side to allow the doors to be opened. Two tempered glass shelves are held lightly above a stepped base of satin polished brass and stainless steel.
